For this assignment I answered the following questions down below based on the character Guy Montag from the novel Fahrenheit 451 By: Ray Bradbury.
Fahrenheit 451 By: Ray Bradbury
Who are the character's friends and family? Who does he/she surround herself with? Who are the people your character is closet to? Who does he/she wish he/she she were closest to?
Captain Beatty: He appears to read Montag’s thoughts.
Mildred Montag: Mildred does not understand her husband (Guy Montag) and apparently has no desire to do so.
Professor Faber: A retired English professor whom Montag encountered a year before the book opens.
Clarisse McClellan: Introduces Montag to the world’s potential for beauty and meaning with her gentle innocence and curiosity.
Granger: The leader of the “Book People,” the group of hobo intellectuals Montag finds in the country.
Mrs. Phelps: Begins crying when Montag reads her a poem, revealing feelings and sensibilities.
Stoneman and Black: Two firemen who work with Montag.
These are both friends/family of Montag's. Montag doesn't have anyone in particular that he is the closest to, cause he connects to each friend/family member in different individual ways.
What is your character's name? Does the character have a nickname?
Guy Montag, also known as Montag.
What is your character's hair color? Eye color?
Guy Montag is a 30 year old man who is a fireman. But, instead of fighting fires, he burns books. He has a fierce grin, dark shiny eyes, usually wears his fireman uniform that is charcoal stained pants and jacket which has the number "451" stitched into it.
What kind of distinguishing facial features does your character have?
When he grins the fierce grin of all men signed and driven back by flame.
Does your character have a birthmark? Where is it? What about scars? How did she/he get them?
When Montag gets stabbed in the leg by the Mechanical Hounds needle.
Where was your character born? Where has he/she lived since then? Where does he/she call home?
In the world that Montag was born into, the firemen start fires rather than putting them out. The people in this society do not read books, enjoy nature, spend time by themselves, think independently, or have meaningful conversations. Instead, they drive very fast, watch excessive amounts of television on wall-size sets, and listen to the radio on “Seashell Radio” sets attached to their ears.
Where does your character go when he/she's angry?
Montag gets angry when he finds that his wife had overdosed on pills. He then becomes frustrated when he comes to realization that he doesn't know much about his wife. Montag can't remember where the location was where he met Mildred the only thing he can remember is that Mildred his wife is only interested in her "family".
What is his/her biggest fear? Who has he/she told this to? Who would he/she never tell this to? Why?
Montag's biggest fear is Captian Beatty finding that he plants books in fireman's houses instead of accomplishing his job which should be burning all books that are in existence.
Does he/she have a secret?
Montag's biggest secret is that he plants books in fireman's houses.
What makes your character laugh out loud?
Montag laughs when Clarisse asks if firemen didn't used to put out fires.
When has your character been in love? Had a heart broken?
Montag thinks that his relationship with Mildred is just fine. He declares to himself that he is perfectly happy. However, when he gets home and finds Mildred after a suicide attempt, he then begins to wonder if he and Mildred really are happy. Then, when Clarisse pulls the, "you're not in love with anyone" stunt, he becomes even more startled. He realizes that he can't even remember when he and Mildred first met. Lastly, he realizes that him and Mildred don't really have a relationship at all.
